Prescription Aciclovir Information

Take Aciclovir at regular intervals as instructed. Do not skip any doses. Continue to take it even when you feel better. You must complete the entire course. If you don't, the infection will not clear completely. You may take Aciclovir with or without food. If you experience stomach discomfort, you may take Aciclovir after food. Drink plenty of water while being treated with Aciclovir. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule. DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know. Alert your doctor if you ever had an allergic reaction (rashes, swollen eyes, mouth or breathlessness) to similar medicines such as famciclovir. Alert your doctor if you have kidney disease. Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Aciclovir cannot prevent you from passing herpes to other people. If you are being treated with Aciclovir for herpes, you should follow your doctor's advice on ways to prevent passing the disease to others. You should avoid sexual contact until the doctor certifies that you are cleared of the infection. Aciclovir may cause dizziness. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert. Aciclovir may cause diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, tiredness and headache. Alert your doctor if any of the following symptoms are severe or refuse to go away: - diarrhoea Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of these symptoms or side effects: - rashes - itching - wheezing or breathlessness - difficulty swallowing - swelling of the face, lips or eyes - unusual bruising or bleeding - yellowing of the skin and eyes - dark or tea-coloured urine and light-coloured stools - feeling confused or depressed Alert your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines: - gastric medicines such as cimetidine - probenecid - theophylline (for asthma) - diuretics ("water pills" - used to treat heart disease or high blood pressure) - transplant medicines such as mycophenolate mofetil, ciclosporin or tacrolimus Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
